Tomato Soup 9 Health Benefits

Tomatoes contain a variety of vitamins, minerals and plant compounds that provide a host of health benefits. These nutrients have been shown to protect against many diseases including cancer and heart disease. So, tomato soup might be a tasty way to reap the health benefits of tomatoes. A warm, rich soup in the winter or a cool gazpacho during summer is both delicious.

1. High in nutrients

Tomatoes (Solanumly copersicum) have relatively few calories, but they are packed with nutrients and beneficial plant compounds.

Tomatoes also contain carotenoids, including lycopene. This pigment gives tomatoes their bright red color. Because of its potential health benefits, it may also play a role in many of the health benefits. Intriguingly, research has shown that the body absorbs more lycopene when it is heated. The heat may increase the bioavailability of lycopene or its absorption rate. Tomato Soup, made from cooked tomatoes, is an excellent source.

2. Antioxidants are abundant

Antioxidants are compounds which help to reduce the negative effects of oxidative stresses. Free radicals are molecules that damage cells and cause cell death. Tomato soup is a great source of antioxidants. Research has also shown that vitamin C and flavonoids can help prevent type 2 diabetes, heart disease, brain disease and other diseases.

3. May contain cancer-fighting properties

Because of their high levels of lycopene, tomatoes are well-known for their anti-cancer properties. They could be particularly effective against breast cancer and prostate cancer. Multiple studies have shown a direct correlation between high intakes of lycopene, especially from cooked tomatoes, with a lower risk of developing the disease. The risk of developing breast cancer is reduced by as much as 28% if there are higher levels of carotenoids. These carotenoids are alpha, beta, and lycopene. While these promising results are encouraging, there is no evidence that lycopene can be used as an anticancer drug.

4. Healthy skin and vision

Drinking tomato soup can also be good for your eyes and skin. Beta carotene (and lycopene) may help protect your skin from sunburns by increasing your skin's resistance to UV light. In one study, researchers gave 149 healthy people a supplement that contained 15 mg of lycopene, 0.8% beta carotene, as well as other antioxidants. Eye health is also improved by tomatoes rich in vitamin A and carotenoids.

5. Increases bone health

Osteoporosis, a chronic condition that causes bone fragility and fracture, is a serious problem. Osteoporosis is a serious problem after menopause. Studies have shown that lycopene plays a crucial role in bone metabolism. It increases bone mineral density which decreases the chance of fracture. Other aspects of bone metabolism include balance between osteoblasts (or osteoblasts) and osteoclasts (or osteoclasts). Osteoblasts build bone while osteoclasts break down and resorb bone. Animal research has shown that lycopene can also influence bone metabolism. It stimulates osteoblast activity, which in turn builds bones.

6. May lower your risk of developing heart disease

Consuming high amounts of tomato products can reduce total and LDL cholesterol, which are two of the major risk factors for developing heart disease. This may be due to the high levels of vitamin C and lycopene in tomatoes. Both vitamin C and lycopene prevent LDL cholesterol from oxidizing. Atherosclerosis is linked to LDL cholesterol oxidation. Lycopene lowers cholesterol absorption and improves HDL (good cholesterol) function in the body.

7. May enhance male fertility

Male infertility is often caused by oxidative stress. This can cause sperm damage, which can result in decreased sperm viability or motility. Research suggests that lycopene supplementation may be an option for fertility treatment. Because of its antioxidant properties, lycopene may improve the chance of producing more healthy sperm. A study of 44 men with infertility found that eating tomato juice or soup significantly increased blood levels of lycopene, which could lead to improved sperm motility. Another animal study also showed that lycopene may help reduce radiation therapy-related damage. A decreased sperm count is often the result of this damage.

8. Immunity booster

Tomato soup is a common home remedy for the common flu in some cultures. Its vitamin C and carotenoid contents may stimulate your immune system. Research has also shown that vitamin C may prevent common cold symptoms and decrease the severity.

9. It's easy to make

You can enjoy both cold and warm tomato soups online year round.
